2023 School Board Elections

On November 7, 2023, Sioux City voters will elect five members to the Sioux City Community School District Board of Directors. Four of those seats will serve a four-year term, until 2027. One seat will serve the remainder of former Director Alarcon-Flory’s term through 2025.

Candidates must be an “eligible elector” in the school district at the time of the election, which includes meeting all requirements to register to vote, but the candidate does not have to be registered to vote.

An eligible elector is:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A resident of Iowa
  • At least 18 years old

An eligible elector may NOT:

  • Be a convicted felon (unless voting rights have been restored by the president or governor, including via executive order)
  • Be currently judged incompetent to vote by a court
  • Claim the right to vote in any other place

Interested candidates may file their nomination papers with the School Board Secretary from August 28 through September 21. Copies of nomination papers may be obtained from the School Board Secretary, the county auditor’s office, or on the Secretary of State’s website. Candidates may contact the School Board Secretary for the full packet of information and paperwork, or for any questions about the process. Please call (712) 279-6643 during normal business hours.
